African champions Cameroon crash out of Confederations Cup

Africa’s representative at the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon have crashed out of the tournament after losing 3-1 to Germany on Sunday.

The Nations Cup holders failed to win a game in the eight-team competition, losing to Copa America champions, Chile in their opening match and drawing 1-1 with Asian Cup winners, Australia in the second.

Germany took the lead in the 48th minute through Kerem Demirbay, and made it 2-0 in the 67th minute through Timo Werner, just few minutes after Cameroon’s Mabouka was shown a straight red.

The group’s other tie between Chile and Australia ended in a 1-1 draw. James Troisi opened the scoring for Australia on 42 minutes before Martin Rodriguez equalised for Chile on 68 minutes.

With the results, Germany finished top of the Group on seven points, followed by Chile, with five points.

Germany will now go on to face Mexico in the second semifinal on Thursday. While Chile will take on Portugal on Wednesday.
