AfroBasket 2017: D'Tigress beat Senegal, to play Cote d'IVoire in Q'finals

The Nigerian national women basketball team, D’Tigress, have been on fire since their arrival at the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship in Bamako, Mali.

The two-time champions have defeated all their opponents from the beginning of the championship, including Mozambique, Egypt, Congo DR, Guinea and now Senegal.

Having already booked their place in the quarterfinals, Nigeria came out winners in their last preliminary round match against the defending champions on Wednesday night.

Nigeria triumphed in the first quarter 14-13, and were ahead 34-26 after the second quarter.

By the third quarter, the Nigerian girls were still leading 48-41 and they wrapped it up in the last quarter to win 58-54 points.

The game was rather very physical as it had to be stopped at some point with medical attention required for a Senegalese player with a shoulder complaint.

D’Tigress have now claimed their fifth successive wins in the 2017 championship, marking them as favourites to win the title they won in 2003 and 2005.

The Nigerians will now face their neighbors Cote d’Ivoire in the Quarter-Finals with an eye at the Semi-Finals and the crown eventually.
