The Nigerian national women basketball team, D’Tigress, continued their winning streak with a brilliant quarterfinal display at the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship in Mali.

Nigeria, who defeated Cote d’Ivoire on Friday at the quarterfinals, will now battle it out with the host nation, Mali, in the semifinals.

Having won six successive games since the beginning of the tournament, the Nigerian team is marked as favourites to win the title they won in 2003 and 2005.

In Friday’s encounter, D’Tigress began with a 23-13 points lead in the first quarter and made it 46-15 points by the end of the first half.

They went ahead to win 25-17 points in the third quarter and then wrapped it all up on 98-43 points at the end of the fourth quarter.

Later on Friday, Mali blew out Egypt 90-50 in their quarterfinal match to set up a semifinal clash with Nigeria.

The Nigerian ladies will be hoping to grab a ticket to the final, which will also guarantee their place at the World Cup.

The 2017 AfroBasket serves as a qualifying tournament for the FIBA Women’s World Cup, with the two finalists to represent the continent in the global finals in Spain.
