In from Nifemi Daniel …
Nigeria’s D’Tigress proved bookmakers wrong by beating continental rivals Senegal 75-64 on Monday at ongoing AfroBasket Women 2015 in Cameroon.
It was Nigeria’s first win over Senegal in the last three meetings at AfroBasket Women competition and with the win Scott Nnaji’s team climbed top of Group B thanks to Angola’s defeat early in the day.
Nigeria led all but 3:34 minutes of game, especially because of their intense defense as well as offense efficiency.

Although Nigeria entered the final quarter leading 60-48, Senegal managed to cut the deficit to just six points. But a succession of poor execution resulting in three turnovers in that moment of the game allowed Nigeria to regain a 12-point lead.
Both Helen Ogunjimi and playmaker Sarah Ogoke came off the bench to re-energise Nigeria’s offense. The pair combined for three Nigeria’s three-pointers as Ogoke led all scorers with 18 points.
Nigeria improved their mark to 3-1, prompting Joyce Ekworomadu to describe the win as “big statement, but we need to face one game at a time.”
