After 117 yrs, US returns looted bells to the Philippines

The United States of America has returned three bells looted by its troops more than a century ago from a church in the Philippines.

Reports say the move by the US was in line with an announcement made by the country’s Embassy in August promising to return the Balangiga bells after decades of pressure.

Reacting to the return of the bells, President Rodrigo Duterte praised his countrymen and the US at a ceremony in Balangiga, where the treasures were taken 117 years ago.

Recall that the bronze bells were seized during the Philippine-American War as part of reprisals following a massacre.
