Edo PDP to boycott LG polls, says results have been compiled before elections

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki on Wednesday swore-in Mr Imonofi Osumah Inusa as the new chairman of Etsako West Local Government Area (LGA).

The LGA is where the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole hails from.

Obaseki had earlier sacked the LGA’s former chairman, Mr. Yakubu Musa, over alleged fraud in the council to the tune of about N46 million.

Following Musa’s sack, speculations were that the governor actually removed the former chairman to install somebody who would be loyal to him, and help him have control over the LGA.

The proponents of the speculations based their claims on the perceived rift between the governor and his supposed political ‘godfather’ and predecessor, Oshiomhole.

However, during the swearing in of Inusa, an event that took place at Edo State Government House, Benin City, Obaseki explained that probe by a panel constituted by the state government showed that Musa, while serving as chairman, involved himself in fraudulent activities.

He also said that the former chairman did not possess the capacity to supervise the staff of the council.

He said, “With the permission and authorisation of the Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA), we dropped Yakubu Musa for engaging in corrupt activities.

“He was dropped based on the investigation conducted following reports and observations at the monthly Joint Account Allocation Committee meetings I preside over.”

The governor said there was no way the state government’s developmental efforts would be rated highly, if the local governments failed to perform their expected functions.
