METELE: ‘Unfortunate! Nigerian soldiers killed while service chiefs were attending APC event in Aso Rock’

Service Chiefs in the country finally made themselves available before the House of Representatives on Monday to discuss national security issues, after the Speaker of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila had threatened them.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai and the Inspector General Police (IGP) Adamu Muhammed, were, however, absent at the meeting that was held behind the closed doors.
But both Buratai and Muhammed sent representatives.

Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila said the meeting was aimed at finding out why there were still growing concerns of insecurity in the country despite the claims of success made by the military.

Sources said that Chief of Defense Staff who led the Service Chiefs at the meeting tendered apology for their absence at the previous meeting called by the House of Representatives.

He cleared the air that their absence last week was not out of disrespect to the House but due to a collision in the meeting date with another another meeting which was held by the Service Chiefs on the same day.

Recall that the speaker had last Friday threatened the service chiefs upon their absence at the security meeting called by the House. Gbajabiamila who described the action as an act of disrespect to the House also threatened to report the service chiefs to President Muhammad Buhari.

However, following a threat to report service chiefs to President Muhammadu Buhari over their failure to honour meeting with lawmakers, a northern group, Arewa Citizens for Democracy (ACD) attacked Gbajabiamila.

Reacting, the Arewa Citizens for Democracy (ACD) said the fact that Gbajabiamila could only threaten to report the service chiefs to President Buhari is an admission of his screaming incompetence.
