Court refuses FG’s plea for arrest of Ekweremadu

The Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, has assured Nigerians that he is staying put with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Ekweremadu was reacting to insinuations that he has abandoned the opposition party because of his alleged grievances over the choice of former Governor Peter Obi as the running mate to the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

According to Ekweremadu, who made his position known in a post of his Facebook page on Monday, he is still with the party as he and others are currently working on how to oust the All Progressive Congress, APC, in the forthcoming elections.

It would be recalled that rumours have been rife that Ekweremadu was on his way out of the party because of the way Obi emerged as Atiku’s running mate.

The Deputy Senate President wrote: “My attention has been drawn to the orchestrated attempts by some characters to create the impression of a divided house in People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the coming presidential election. Such characters dish out fake and divisive stories without source on a daily basis and attribute same to me.

“While I refuse to be distracted by such cheap blackmail, smear campaign and extreme propaganda, it is important to reassure our supporters that the PDP is united and focused on wrestling power from the All Progressives Congress, APC.”
