N3.2BN FRAUD: EFCC amends 34 charges against ex-Gov Kalu

Senator-elect for Abia North, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, has been backed to emerge as the next Deputy Senate President in the Ninth Senate, set for inauguration in the next 14-days.

The Urhobo Political Group, a pressure group within the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), endorsed the ambition of the former governor of Abia State claiming that Kalu is a man of integrity.

This is against a decision by the Delta State chapter of the party which has endorsed Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, himself an Urhobo for the same position.

The group backed Kalu during a meeting held at Ughelli, in Delta State, when it conducted a voice vote which turned out to be unanimous in favour of the Senator-elect.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the coordinator of the group, Jerry Uloho, said Kalu was endorsed because he has an enviable track record of performance, during his tenure as governor of Abia State.

“Orji Kalu is cool headed and a personality whose character is not in doubt. We are not comfortable with having a rascal and controversial figure that would rubbish the image of the senate and the country, at large, in the eyes of the global community.

“If Orji Kalu becomes the deputy senate president, everybody will sleep, heavens will not destroy heavens. His promotion will not be a punishment to fellow Nigerians and, with Orji Kalu, not only the South South and South East, but the entire nation would be comfortable,” Uloho said.

The endorsement comes days after Kalu himself insisted that he is in the contest for the role of Deputy Senate President’s position in the incoming Ninth National Assembly.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Senator-elect revealed that much while fielding questions on Monday from journalists at the Presidential Villa while on his way to deliver a letter from President Nicolás Maduro of Venezuela, to President Muhammadu Buhari.
