The presidency on Tuesday announced the removal of chairman of the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P), Gen. Martin Luther Agwai (rtd).

In a statement, presidential spokesperson, Reuben Abati, named Ishaya Dare Akau as the new head of the interventionist agency.

Agwai had last week, delivered a lecture at former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s 78th birthday held at Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

Checks revealed that Agwai’s lecture at the event may have irked Jonathan.

It is an open secret that the relationship between Obasanjo and Jonathan is far from cordial.

Abati’s statement reads: “In furtherance of his efforts to continuously re-energize and reposition agencies of the Federal Government for optimal service delivery, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has appointed Mr. Ishaya Dare Akau as the new chairman of the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P).

“Mr. Akau, whose appointment takes immediate effect, replaces Gen. Martin Luther Agwai (rtd.) who served as chairman of the SURE-P until today.
