Ahead 2019, 15 parties form Mega Coalition to wrestle APC, PDP

As a strategy to present a formidable alliance capable of winning elections in 2019, 15 political parties have come together to form a Mega Coalition.

The group, which said that its coming together is not a merger, explained that the participating registered political parties under its alliance would be allowed to field separate candidates for councillorship, local government chairmanship, House of Assembly, House of Representatives and Senatorial elections, but present a single candidate in governorship and presidential elections.

They said “At the governorship elections, the winning party shall form a Government of State Unity (GSU) while at the Presidential election the winning party shall form a Government of National Unity (NUG) with a view to accommodating participating parties in the coalition thereby reducing the winner takes all syndrome which does not allow smaller political parties to grow in Nigeria,” the group said.

Among the parties in the alliance are Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN); Better Nigeria Progressive Party (BNPP); Democratic Alternative (DA); Democratic Peoples Congress (DPC) and Democratic Peoples Party (DPP).

The coalition said that it was going to field candidates in the coming governorship elections in Anambra, Ekiti and Osun. It further boasted that it will dislodge the current ruling parties in those states.

The group also stated that its leader, the national chairman of National Unity Party, Chief Perry Opara would be identified as “Chancellor” of the Mega Coalition.

Part of the announcement by the coalition read, “No party shall be excluded from participating in the Mega Coalition. Only good candidates who have programmes that can provide dividends of democracy can be voted into office by Nigerians.

“2019 election shall have emphasis on candidates and personalities rather than parties. Nigerians are now aware that most politicians promise ‘heaven on earth when they are seeking public offices only to renege on their campaign promises when they are elected. Nigerians are now aware and know better.

“We shall test the might of the Mega Coalition in the Anambra, Ekiti and Osun States elections before the 2019 general elections. Future elections in Nigeria will no longer be about political parties or ‘god-fatherism’. It will be about the personality of the candidates and the issues being canvassed.

“The Mega Coalition will reduce the inconveniences INEC faces in conducting elections. It will make elections and candidates management easier.”

We don’t need any mega party that will wrestle power from the apc except for the party that will grant us Biafra

No party in Nigeria will grant you Biafra, except the party’s presidential candidate is Igbo and Nigerians won’t even allow such party win. Don’t deceive yourself, quit the Biafra tussle and focus on how we can all make Nigeria better place to live in.

Then you are a camouflage. You always air your view on supporting Biafra on this platform, how come you are backing out

All the parties that formed one mega party are so confused, they don’t know whether to quit or proceed, when the Megan option came, they had to go for it. I still see them wasting time, resources and expertise of failed agenda.

??? looking at all these parties, all of them never reach PDP, let alone APC that they are looking a thing dethroning. They should have fun with their “mega” status.

I wish them all the best in councillorship elections and probably chairmanship elections. But for senatorial, reps, gubernatorial election and presidential election, their name is sorry. It’s not meant for them because they can’t make the match .
