Ahead of 2019, S’West govs meet in Ogun State

Ahead of 2019 general elections, the governors of South West states on Monday gathered in Ogun State apparently to discuss the challenges facing the geo-political zone and how to develop the region.

The meeting had in attendance governors of Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Oyo and Ekiti states. The governors convened under the umbrella of Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN Commission).

The host governor, Ibikunle Amosun, opened the meeting with a welcome address at 12.48pm, after the governors observed one minute silence for late Director- General of the DAWN Commission, Dipo Famakinwa.

Although the meeting was held behind closed doors, Ripples Nigeria gathered that part of the discussions at the meeting may have bordered on its earlier report on the quarterly meeting sometime ago.

Ripples had in the earlier report hinted that concerns over alleged northern plot to dominate the Southwest ahead of the 2019 polls might just be the real reason governors from the region had gathered in Ibadan.

While the governors have continuously maintained that the gathering was anchored on uniting the South West states in order to ensure stronger economic ties to stave off the crisis of underdevelopment and spur growth in the region, sources close to organizers of the meeting, have argued that there could be much more to the gathering.

According to the sources, the forum may well be a canopy for the governors to weigh in on political developments in the region.
