The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, deepened on Wednesday, as a former political adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan, Ahmed Gulak, literarily seized power at the party secretariat, announcing himself the new chairman of the party.

Gulak stormed the Wadata House headquarters of the party around noon to take over as chairman, relying on a ruling by Justice Husseini Baba-Yusuf of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory.

Justice Baba-Yusuf, had on December 16, ruled that Prince Uche Secondus, who had been acting as chairman of the party since the resignation of Adamu Muazu, to vacate office and allow Mr. Gulak or anyone from the north east region of the country take over.

While addressing the media, Gulak said he decided to take over as chairman after tje ruling of another court against Secondus’ stay of execution suit against the December 16 ruling.

According to him, the party must not be left without a head after the ruling of Wednesday, adding that he was taking over as acting chairman in a bid to return the party back to the people.
