Airlines, NAHCo snub NIPOST over debts

Published

on

Recipients of some parcels and mails handled by the Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST) have been finding it difficult in the last five months to receive their packages overseas. It was gathered that airlines and the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc. (NAHCo) in Lagos and Abuja have stopped their services over the huge debts owed by NIPOST.

Investigation by New Telegraph revealed that thousands of undelivered parcels and mails in the custody of NIPOST’s international mail processing offices at the Abuja and Lagos post offices are allegedly being pilfered by the service’s personnel.

Sources within the service alleged that there had been problems in the last three to five months regarding parcel delivery delay to international destinations due to ‘some issues’ NIPOST had with the airlines “but these have been resolved.”

The source noted that the issue was connected with huge sums of money NIPOST owed the airlines. Though New Telegraph could not get the exact amount owed the airlines, however, sources said that it runs into billions of naira.
