AJAOKUTA CONCESSION: EFCC sued for allegedly hoarding investigative report

Published

on

The controversy surrounding Nigeria’s concession of Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited (ASCL) and National Iron Ore Mining Company (NIOMCO) to Indian firm, Global Infrastructure Holding Limited (GIHL), on Friday assumed a fresh dimension when a group of relevant metallurgical unions in the country filed a case in the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly hoarding an interim investigative report on the operations of GIHL in the two national assets.

According to the court papers with suit number: FHC/Abj/CS/674/17, the unions comprising Nigerian Metallurgical Society, African Iron and Steel Association (AISA), Steel and Engineering Workers Union of Nigeria, and Iron and Steel Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, and their attorneys, Sulaiman Abduraheem and Natasha Akpoti, asked the court to mandate the EFCC to release to them certified true copies of its past investigation on GIHL’s operations in NIOMCO and ASCL, as ordered by late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua in 2008.

Yaradua really meant well for Ajaokuta steel company then if he was to be alive but since his death, Ajaokuta steel company became dead too.

Even though Biafra has come calling, I won’t refuse to express my feelings concerning ajaokuta steel company in kogi state .this is a gigantic project of shagari’s regime that can employ millions of unemployed youths at a time. I was there last year and I shed tears seeing staff quarters built going dilapidated and the place becoming bushes. To cap it all, the project was established in a wrong state where their governors are senseless although I know kogi is blessed with iron and steel. If that company was to be in Lagos, I trust their governors, they won’t have allow the company remain abandoned because it’s a federal project because they know it will serve as source of income to their state and will benefit their youths.
For kogi state indigene, I bemoan your leaders, think out of the box.

It is so sad to know now that our selfish leaders are why things are not working we’ll in nigeria. Ajaokuta alone is enough to transform the lives of Kogi residents and serve as extra means of generating income for Nigeria, but the still mill is just there with nothing to show off. Now that the Buhari government is trying to bring it back to life, I hope it will be a success

Nigeria is wasting resources, because the government isn’t utilizing the available resources it has and that’s why Biafra will always be better than Nigeria, always.

EFCC is anti graft agency, perhaps they actually don’t have the information again, or if released it will affect the concession. EFCC has never been selfish, the agency has always been working in the best interest of Nigeria.
