Akpabio approaches tribunal to reclaim senate seat

Former Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio has withdrawn a suit challenging his loss in the February 23 National Assembly Election before a Federal Capital Territory High Court.

Akpabio who lost his bid to return to the Senate to the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Chris Ekpenyong, did not give reasons for his withdrawal.

The trial judge Justice valentine Ashi confirmed this on Friday.

Justice Ashi, however, denied restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from issuing certificate of return to the PDP Candidate but contended that the stay of execution issued last week for Friday was to enable an applicant to exercise his rights.

Following the release of the results, Akpabio had vowed to challenge the declaration of Ekpenyong as the winner of the election, and had approached the court to redress perceived grievance.
