AKWA IBOM GOV RACE: NDDC boss Ekere may face legal firewall

As the date for the 2019 general elections draw closer, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State, Nsima Ekere may find himself face to face with a legal hurdle.

Ekere who still doubles as the CEO of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) may be dragged to court over his refusal to give up his position in the federal government parastatal.

The National Chairman of The United Registered Political Parties (URPP) Comrade Michael Obasuyi called on the APC hopeful Ekere to step down.

He made this call during a visit to Uyo the State Capital during the weekend, where he Visited Chairmen of various political parties.

He said that the APC candidate is still the CEO of the NDDC, hence can not be the flag bearer of the APC for the forthcoming Governorship elections.

He gave Mr. Ekere 14 days Ultimatum to step down or face legal actions.

“I have by this Press Statement told him my position, he has to either step down as candidate and face his job or step down as NDDC boss and face politics.

“The position of NDDC CEO is not elective, but an appointment and it goes against every principle for such a person to still be a candidate.

“If he was a mere aspirant that’s a different case, as that is now permitted, but not a candidate. The APC has again showed it’s desperation for power. I call on the good people of Akwa-Ibom to resist this by all means. I am not from Akwa-Ibom, neither am I supporting PDP, but immediately I was told by the good people of Akwa-Ibom State I immediately swung into action”, Obasuyi said.

Obasuyi later went into a closed door meeting with chairmen, legal teams, and select members of some political parties during the visit, but details of the meeting were not made public.
