All eyes on Buhari govt as court signs order for Dasuki’s release

Nigerians and the world are watching with keen interest if the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration would finally obey the sixth ruling of the court granting former National Security Adviser (NSA) Sambo Dasuki bail.

This is especially as the former NSA chief is said to have fulfilled all the bail conditions imposed on him by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

His lawyer, Ahmed Raji, told newsmen on Tuesday that he has the letter by the Deputy Chief Registrar of the Federal High Court confirming that Dasuki had met all the bail conditions requested of him by the court, and for his release.

Raji added that the letter has also been presented to the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Department Of State Services (DSS) for further action on the court order.

Dasuki was granted bail for the sixth time by Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday July 2.

The judge ordered that the DSS, which has kept Dasuki in detention for two and a half years, since December 29, 2015, should not again detain the former NSA boss, but can invite him on a working day, should it want to interview him.

The five times the court granted Dasuki bail before now were never obeyed.

Ojukwu granted him bail in the sum of N200 million with two sureties in like sum, holding that “the long and continued detention” of the applicant since December 29, 2015, could not be justified.

Dasuki, a retired Colonel is being tried over alleged illegal diversion of about $2.1 billion meant for arms purchase.
