Alleged Capital One hacker arrested, soon to be arraigned

Thirty three-year-old former Amazon software engineer, Paige Thompson has been arrested by Federal Authorities for allegedly masterminding the hacking of US financial services company Capital One.

Paige Thompson who the FBI said obtained personal information from more than 100 million Capital One credit applications was arrested Monday in Seattle.

In a federal court filing in his case on Wednesday night, prosecutors revealed that in May, Paige Thompson made threats against an unidentified social media company which she threatened to ‘shoot down’.

The accused who is now in federal custody pending an August 15 detention hearing also reportedly discussed the Capital One hack online with friends in chats and in a group she created on the Slack messaging service.

Capital One had revealed in a statement that approximately 100 million individuals living in the US and six million in Canada were affected by the incident.

It also informed that the hacker stole personal information pertaining to customer credit card applications given to the company between 2005 though to early 2019.

This included names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, and self-reported income such as credit scores, credit limits, balances, payment history, and contact information.
