Alleged forgery: Saraki, Ekweremadu meet bail condition, avoid Kuje Prison

The embattled Senate President, Bukola Saraki and his Deputy, Ike Ekweremadu on Monday met bail conditions and avoided being thrown into Kuje Prison.

An Abuja High Court presided over by Justice Yusuf Halilu, had after the duo pleaded not guilty on a two-count charge tabled against them by the federal government, granted them bail on conditions that they must produce two sureties who must be Nigerians with landed properties in Asokoro, Maitama, Wuse 2 and Garki,.

Saraki and Ekweremadu are fighting a political battle of their lives, having been penciled down for removal for upsetting the game plan of the leading All progressives Congress (APC) for the emergence of a National Assembly leadership of their choice.

With the number of supporters who followed the embattled lawmakers to the court premises, it was no surprise they were able to meet their bail on time and now, will at least, have some momentary respite till July 11, when the trial resumes in court.

Speaking to newsmen after the court process, the prosecution led by Mohammed Diri said that it did not oppose bail for Bukola Saraki, because it would have been unreasonable to stall legislative processes in the National assembly.
