ALLEGED FRAUD: Abuja Court grants Babachir, two others N50m bail

A federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal in the sum of N50 million.

The court on Wednesday also directed the former SGF and two other defendants to provide one surety each and resident within the jurisdiction of the court.

The court on Wednesday granted them bail in the sum of N50 million each with one surety.

The court also ruled that each of the defendants must deposit their international passport with the court and be remanded in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) until they meet their bail conditions.

The former SGF who was arrested by the EFCC on Monday night was arraigned before the court with two other persons on a 10 – count charges of diverting funds meant for the clearing of evasive plants in the troubled northeast.

The court adjourned till March 18 for trial.
