ALLEGED N120BN FRAUD AGAINST IGP: Misau ducked, granted N5m bail

For alleging that the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, took bribe amounting to N120 billion and other allegations, Senator Isah Misau, was Thursday arraigned before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Maitama, Abuja. He was granted bail of N5 million.

The Federal Government had accused the senator representing Bauchi Central senatorial district of making injurious falsehood statements against Idris and leveled a five-count charge against him.

Misau, who appeared before the trial judge, Justice Ishaq Bello, who is the Chief Judge of the FCT High Court, however pleaded not guilty to all the five counts when read to him on Thursday.

He was subsequently granted bail in the sum of N5 million with two reliable sureties in like sum.
The judge fixed November 28 and 29 for trial.

The judge granted Misau bail sequel to the application by his lawyer, Chief Godwin Obla (SAN), who prayed the court to grant the senator bail on self-recognizance.

Mr. Salihu Bakun, the Director of Public Prosecution, who represented the Federal Government, had said that he was not against Misau’s bail request.

Misau, a retired Deputy Superintendent of Police had alleged that the IGP diverted money meant for the purchase of Armoured Personnel Carriers, Sport Utility Vehicles and other exotic cars.

He also among other things accused the police boss of making almost half of the mobile commanders in the country people of his Nupe extraction; instituting roadblocks across Nigeria with an aim to extort money from motorists; collection of illegal fees by way of security protections given to corporate organisations, eminent citizens and oil companies running into billions of Naira and that Idris also had sexual affair with female police officers.
