Alves scores on debut as PSG beat Monaco in Super Cup

Brazilian star Dani Alves scored on his official debut for Paris St Germain as the Ligue 1 side beat champions, Monaco, 2-1 in the Trophee des Champions.

The match was played on African soil, at the Stade de Tanger in Morocco, on Saturday.

The preseason trophy, which is contested between the French Cup winners and league champions, is a customary tie that serves as a kick-off to a new French League season.

Djibril Sidibe had put Monaco ahead when he chipped over goalkeeper Alphonse Areola on the half-hour mark.

But Alves, who signed from Juventus on a free transfer earlier this month, netted a 51st-minute equaliser from a brilliant 35-yard free-kick.

The 34-year old then set up Adrien Rabiot to head home the winner, to ensure PSG win the trophy the 7th time.

Monaco will begin their Ligue 1 title defence at home against Toulouse on Friday as the season resumes.
