Amaechi, Wike bicker over moves to halt inauguration

The Federal High Court in Owerri, Imo State has struck out a suit instituted by Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi and the state’s APC seeking to stop the inauguration of the governor-elect, Chief Nyesom Wike May 29.

The presiding judge, Justice S. M. Shuaibu said on Tuesday that his court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the matter.

The state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Worgu Boms, and the APC had in suit number FHC/OW/CS/100/2015 asked the court to stop the inauguration of Wike and the deputy governor-elect, Dr. Ipalibo Harry-Banigo, on May 29.

However, Wike said credible information available to him indicated that Governor Amaechi allegedly paid out N300m to some lawyers out of an agreed N500m for the procurement of the court order.

Addressing members of the inauguration and transition committees on Tuesday in Port Harcourt, Barrister Wike said that the state became bankrupt because of the outgoing governor’s fixation on stopping his inauguration and his siphoning of government funds to shop for unconstitutional court orders.

He said it was unfortunate that outgoing Governor Amaechi would desecrate the office of the Attorney General of Rivers State and enmesh it in illegal political manoeuvres.

He said: “ Amaechi has boasted that he has looted all the funds and he is threatening that if Buhari is sworn in he will deal with this and the policeman and soldier.

“That tells you the kind of man you are dealing with.  This is just to inform those who you not informed about his antics, so that you will be encouraged in the face his needless provocation”.

He commended the judiciary for always living above the treacherous antics of politicians like Amaechi who survive on name dropping and use of corrupt means to negatively influence due process.

Cat and Dog, two of una know wetin una dey do….Amaechi should have prepared a better candidate for the APC to take over from him. Rivers remains a PDP state and your work now is to ensure that APC takes the state in the next election. Reserve your revenge for then.
