AMCON reverses self, unseals OAS premises

In what looks like a u-turn, the Asset Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON) has unsealed the premises of an indigenous aviation company, the Odengene Air Shuttle (OAS Helicopters) heliport.

The AMCON reversal on Saturday was mired by conflicting reports suggesting that the action was initially taken in a hurry.

Though there were evidences of withdrawal of manangers of the debt management agency, its bold banner indicating take over of the offices and the helipad, at the company’s headquartes was yet to be removed.

An aviation expert, Captain Robert Durojaye said that AMCON did not allow all available option of conflict resolution before sealing up the company.

“Some of us in the industry are getting worried that if nothing is done, less than 50 per cent of local airline will be taken over by AMCON, even when they know that the so-called bailout fund to the industry was ravaged by the bad economy,” he said.

But AMCON management said it would continue to put moves in place for the recovery of about $1.65 billion said to have been extended to the aviation operators in 2013.

It has taken similar action against Aero Contractors and Arik Airline, both of which are still under AMCON receivership.

AMCON action indicates that the matter with OAS has been amicably resolved and that the company will continue to operate unhindered.

In a statement it said: “OAS has made a surprise and bold imprint bordering on finance and business programme that has impressed us. ”

“Our (AMCON’s) intention is never to hinder any organisation with great potential, rather we will encourage such companies to reach their goals, especially if such goals are clear.”

In his reaction, OAS managing directior, Captain Evarest Nnaji, confirmrd that the issues his outfit had with AMCON are now resolved.

Apart from changing cookouts, will the shoe clean itself, wear itself on owner’s feet? If it’s not capable of doing these, then the maker should go to the lab to complete his assignment very well.
