America surges past China in Coronavirus death toll

CORONAVIRUS: Iran toll rises as Japan announces 15th death

Death toll in the United States from the coronavirus pandemic has surpassed the official figures obtainable in China.

According to the global Covid-19 data collected by the Johns Hopkins University, at least 3,834 deaths have been recorded in the US, eclipsing the 3,312 fatalities recorded in China.

This means that the United States has the highest death toll after Italy, 12,428 and Spain, 8,464.

The US government considers imposing stricter restrictions on movements to curb further spread of the virus as it now records twice the number of confirmed cases as China.

Meanwhile, the United Kingdom and France have each reported their higest overnight mortality rates since the start of the pandemic.

There are more than 857,000 people with confirmed cases of the virus, 174,000 recoveries and 40,000 deaths from coronavirus around the world.
