ONDO: Don't let political crisis of 1983 repeat itself, PDP chieftain warns Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday said he would not let Nigerians down on the key promises he made ahead of the 2015 presidential elections.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, who said this in a statement made available to journalists, maintained that Buhari’s administration which came to power on the plank of anti-corruption and good governance will live up its promises and commitments regarding those commitments.

This is even as Nigerians around the country have continued to lament the poor state of the economy, and questioning the ability of the present administration to deliver on promises made.
Shehu, noted that the decision of the government to submit the budget proposals of ministries, departments and agencies to the National Assembly for their consideration was a step in line with the president’s wish to offer a more accountable and transparent administration.
“The laying of budgets for the MDAs, particularly those regarding the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation behemoth is clearly unprecedented.
“The President is determined to make the budgeting more transparent and more participative. It is all part of the reengineering of the entire processes of government for the benefit and the welfare of ordinary citizens”, he said.
He said the president believes that good governance is key to the nation’s progress and that transparency is the cornerstone of any government that has the welfare of ordinary citizens as its mantra.
Meanwhile many Nigerians are accusing President Buhari of not being transparent in his appointments, as he has appointed more people from the northern region than the south and when cries of marginalisation are heard everyday, especially from people of the south.
Also, some Nigerians hold the opinion that the president has failed in his inauguration promise that he belongs to all and to nobody. They accuse him of staging a one sided corruption fight, as it appears the opposition and enemies of his APC party, are the only ones being prosecuted of corruption.
