Amid rumours of planned post-retirement tenure extension, IGP Idris meets Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, met behind closed doors on Friday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja one day after his official retirement from the force, having put in 35 years.

Idris will also clock 60 years on January 15.

The agenda of the meeting, though not disclosed, is believed to be connected to the president’s decision on whether or not to retain the IGP post-retirement.

The meeting ended around 2.35pm.

There have been strong speculations that Buhari plans to extend Idris’ tenure, a decision the leading opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), believes is to enable the president and his party gain unfair advantage in the 2019 polls with the help the police.
