Amokachi to play for Nigeria again

Former Nigeria international Daniel Amokachi has expressed his excitement over the opportunity to play again in national colours in the Star Sixes tournament which commences in July.

The former Everton and Club Brugge forward will be joining other Nigeria legends like Austin Jay-Jay Okocha in the six-a-side tournament designed for former internationals and scheduled to hold at the O2 Arena from July 13 to July 16.

Amokachi, who was recently appointed the technical director for Finnish second division outfit JS Hercules, netted 13 times in 44 games during his international career with the Super Eagles.

“I can’t wait to get started,” Amokachi told website of Everton Football Club.

“It’s a great platform to play with and against ex-teammates and some legends of the game that played in the same generation.

“Jay-Jay Okocha first approached me about it. We’ve known each other for a long time, even before him I was very close friends with his older brother. We’re more like family than friends.

Other Ex-Evertonians on show will include Don Hutchison, whose Scotland team have been drawn in the same group as Phil Neville’s England side, and Olivier Dacourt, who will play alongside Robert Pires for France.

And Amokachi added, “It will be a great event and hopefully I will get to see plenty of Evertonians there. I always try to keep up my fitness, so I’m ready to play. Let’s see what happens!”

The Nigeria squad has been drawn in Group B alongside Brazil, Italy and China.
