ANAMBRA 2017: My campaigns against Obiano’s return, a promise I want to keep –Obi

Former governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, on Wednesday led campaigns against his successor, Willie Obiano’s re-election.

He said he was doing that in fulfillment of the promise he made to the people of the state.

“I took Obiano around Anambra State, to the markets, to every part of the state and the people kept asking me if I was sure of him as they did not know him, so they voted for him because of me. I told them, I would be the one to lead a campaign against Obiano if he did not perform well in his first term.

“Today, can anyone show me what the governor has done within his first term? He has nothing to show for it,” Obi explained as the major reason he wants Obiano voted out. He added, “I don’t have any issue with Mr. Willie Obiano as a person, but I have issues with Willie Obiano as governor.”

Obi gave this explanation at a rally organised by the women’s wing of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the party’s secretariat in Awka, Anambra State. He was in company of PDP governorship candidate for the November 18 poll, Oseloka Obaze.

He went further to say, “Winning a second term is an easy task for any performing governor as all that is needed is to point at his achievements in the first term and now tell the people what he will do in the second term and the people will vote for him if they are satisfied.

“When I was working for my second term, each community I went to, I showed them what I had achieved, and that made it possible for the people to vote for me because they saw what I could do.

“We challenge Obiano to show us what he has done in his first term. Go to all parts of the state where all of you come from, can you mention the things he has done? He has done nothing. That is why I am here to lead the campaign for his removal.”

Obaze, who also addressed the women, told them that he chose female deputy, Mrs Chidi Onyemelukwe, as running mate to demonstrate his government’s intention for women in the state.

The feud between Obi and Obiano had been ascribed by the governor’s media aide, Egbuna Amuta, to have emanated after Obiano refused to pay N7 billion, Obi requested for allegedly funding the governor’s 2013 election.
This claim has long been refuted by the former governor, Obi.

This is madness, seriously. Does Obi still think the people of Anambra care about him like he was in power? They voted him for a second term because they had no better alternative, if they still want Obaino there, Obi’s campaign will not change their minds

Obi lacks discipline, I’m beginning to see him as a tout who has no dignity whatsoever. Not liking Obaino’s tenure doesn’t mean there won’t be people who are satisfied with him. Obi should lay low and stop disturbing himself

You’re not seeing the clearer picture, Obi is trying to place himself as godfather who must be adored in the state, forgetting that this generation is different, godfatherism can no longer work

Obi is a senior politician, he needs to be quiet on issues like this so as not to create unnecessary enmity
