ANAMBRA GUBER: Chidoka's chances threatened as Biafra group withdraws backing

An aspirant in the November 18 Anambra State governorship election under the platform of the United Progressive Party (UPP) Chief Osita Chidoka, now has a renewed hope of contesting in the forthcoming Anambra governorship election.

And he appears to be approaching his aspiration with renewed vigour after the party lifted an earlier suspension placed on him.

UPP had on August 15 announced the suspension of Chidoka and Chief Chudi Offodile, who are two governorship aspirants under its platform on allegations of anti-party activities.
The party however dropped the allegations against them and other party members suspended along them for lack of merit.

Chidoka, a former Corp Marshall of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) had initially denied that he was suspended.

The decision to drop the allegation was disclosed in a communique’ issued at the end of a crucial meeting of the State Working Committee, National Working Committee, and other stakeholders, where the state executive pledged loyalty to the party national chairman, Chief Chekwas Okorie.

In the communiqué endorsed by Dr. Sylvester Igwilo, the party regretted the damage the allegations and subsequent suspension must have caused.

But in a statement released on Friday through his Media Campaign Director, Viola Ifeyinwa Okolie, following the lifting of his suspension by the party, Chidoka described the suspension as plots by enemies of the party to distract them.

He said they cannot be stopped, adding that those who fuelled the settled issue had wanted to scuttle the August 19, 2017 governorship primaries of the UPP.

“Enemies of our dear state, who having realized UPP’s inevitable destination is now in frenzy mode, seeking all means to distract and disorient our ranks.

“We are not unaware of plots being hatched by these foes of Anambra state to destabilize our party and attempt to manipulate the mandate of the people in this election. But we know that Ndi Anambra have made up their minds to join forces with the UPP to free our state from the shackles of the oppressive few.

“On this score, Chief Chidoka beckons on all the people of Anambra state, his teeming supporters and army of volunteers in the 326 electoral wards across the state to continue to work hard to ensure that no space is left uncovered in our grassroots mobilization effort.”

Campaigns over the coming November 18 governorship election in Anambra is picking up despite the no referendum no election campaign in the state by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) led by Nnamdi Kanu.
