Anambra 2017: APGA re-jigs national officers, settles for Obiano

Ahead of the Anambra State gubernatorial election in November, Governor Willie Obiano-led government of the state, has asked governorship aspirants to either pay N9million or forget pasting their posters in any part of the state.

This was made known on Monday by Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency (ANSAA). It warned that any aspirant who broke the rule would be sued accordingly as the law did not permit indiscriminate pasting of posters.

The Managing Director of ANSAA, Mr Jude Emecheta, while disclosing this to newsmen in Awka, the state capital, said the agency needs the money to clean up the mess which the posters will generate after the election.

He further said that the agency will begin public enlightenment campaign on the modalities for putting up election posters from February.

Emecheta said, “It is a quasi-criminal offence for any person not to pay government revenue. Any politician, who fails to pay their bills before making campaign posters public, would have the agency to contend with in the court of law.

“So, we are asking politicians not to say Willie Obiano is pursuing you or All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) is chasing you around. Do the needful to avoid prosecution.”

Dozens of politicians form different political parties in the state are already making known their aspiration to become the next governor of the state known.

Those who will emerge candidate of other political parties will wrest power with the incumbent APGA governor Obiano.

This is another reason corruption will not seize to exist in Nigeria, by the time the aspirants pay N9m to paste their posters in public, how will their primary aim not be to make the money back when elected into power?

Exactly, to me , I see no reason for them to pay before they can start pasting their posters because they want to serve their states. Truly , no one wont want to recover all he spent before the election.

Tell them because their sense of reasoning did not tell them

In fact, this is a good law, it will discourage some of the governorship aspirants from participating due to the cost implications of public advertisements and and limit the post to credible and capable hands alone. Advertisement is not even expected to be this cheap, I think Anambra state government should raise the money to about N29m – N35m, so they can really value the public ads.

It is repugnant , that money is too outrageous. Must we always resort to money politics ?

“…any aspirant who broke the rule would be sued accordingly as the law did not permit indiscriminate pasting of posters.”

This is the best news of the day! I mentioned this the last time politicians messed up Lagos in 2015.

The agency in charge of cleaning up post-election mess actually needs money to clean up the dirts of posters after the election. This is a good stand by the governor and those in charge of advertising in the state.

    Thumbs up!
