#ANAMBRADECIDES: Anxiety as INEC begins announcement of election results

The Independent National Election Commission (INEC) has officially begun the announcement of the results from the Anambra State governorship election held on Saturday (yesterday).

Already there is widespread anxiety among Party agents that have gathered at the INEC office in Awka on Sunday, as the
Returning officers of different LGAs are also present to announce the result from the local government areas.

The exercise is being coordinated by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Zana Akpagu, who was earlier announced by INEC as the Returning Officer for the Anambra State governorship election.

He would be assisted by the Residents Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Nwachukwu Orji.
Prof Akpagu had earlier, also stated that so far, results from 16 local government areas out of 21 LGs of the state are ready.

He explained that the others will come in as from 1pm later in the day.

Meanwhile there was a bit of commotion at the the INEC secretariat in Awka, after security agents arrested a man who claimed to be an Electoral Officer at Dunukofia Local Government Area of the state.

The situation has been brought under control.

Thirty seven political parties took part in the election, but it is generally believed that the real fight is between three major parties: the ruling APGA, the PDP and the APC.
