Andy Murray hits big dough in 2016 as World No. 1 (Photos)

Year 2016 has been an incredible year for world renowned tennis star Andy Murray, who finished the year at the top of the ATP tour rankings and won the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award among others.

The 29-year-old played in 16 tournaments in 2016, and won the Wimbledon Grand Slam, Olympic gold and the World Tour Finals – as well as six other titles – to finish the year as Britain’s first world No1 in the Open era.

But other than the titles and silverwares, the monetary earnings of exceptional sportspersons from the various tournaments in which they participate are also an area of interest to fans across the globe.

Andy’s total net worth is estimated to be in the region of £48-66 million. This year alone he bagged around £10.8 million from Prize money.

For instance, at the Australian Open in January, Murray finished as runner-up and took home a cool £1,012,980 for his efforts, and becoming Wimbledon champion for the second time in July, 2016, netted him a cool £2 million.

Here we take a close look at how much the No. 1 has earned from each tournament this year;

However, the prize money that Andy wins over the course of a year are only part of his earnings. His sponsorship deals are actually larger. He has contracts with Standard Life, Head and Rado as well as a four-year deal with sportswear maker Under Armour, reportedly worth £15 million.

At the beginning of 2016, he also signed a partnership with car manufacturer Jaguar, and has remained the sole shareholder of his company, 77 Management which looks after his business empire.

Murray reportedly likes to invest his money in real estate and currently lives in a mansion in Oxshott, Surrey, which cost over £5 million when he bought it in 2009.

He bought Cromlix House in 2013. Cromlix House is a luxury boutique hotel, where he and Kim Sears married in 2015.

Earlier this year, after deciding to spend more time in the UK, Murray sold his luxury Miami flat and netted an estimated profit of $1.4m. His investment in real estate is one that is definitely enviable.

Lastly, Andy is happily married to Kim, and they have a daughter, Sophia Olivia, who’s less than a year old.
