Angry mob sets 2 banks ablaze in Apapa as policeman allegedly kills 2 trailer drivers

An angry mob has set ablaze two banks in protest over an alleged shooting and killing of two trailer drivers by a policeman attached to Diamond Bank on Burma Road, Apapa, Lagos.

The attacked banks it was learnt, were the Diamond Bank where the alleged policeman is attached and a Sterling Bank branch on Wharf Road.

The ugly incident occurred after the trailer drivers allegedly parked indiscriminately in front of the bank.

The order by the policeman for the drivers to repark sparked off an heated argument which later led to the shooting and deaths.

The exact number of drivers shot was not yet clear by the time this story was filed, however it was learnt that they were two.

The colleagues of the drivers were said to have stormed the bank demanding that the policeman be released to them. On the bank’s refusal to hearken to them, the angry youths then set the bank ablaze, destroying properties and other valuables.

Calm has been restored to the area as policemen from Rapid Response Squad, anti-riot squad and Area B command, as well as operatives from the Nigerian Navy Ship BEECEOFT have been deployed to the place.

Some police officers need to go through psychological tests before they deploy them on streets or any public place. Killing a trailer driver because he refused to park well makes no sense at all.

Some Nigerian police officers (men to be precise) are very useless and irresponsible. Nigerians are very angry now, any slight mistake from anyone, the public will go crazy. There’s a need for the government to address mad police officers we have around.

The mob are very stupid! Why didn’t they go to the nearest police station to set the place ablaze? Why was it banks they turned to? Ohhh… They felt they could use the opportunity to steal from the bank? Useless people

Because the police officers were attached to the banks and mind you, they won’t have tried to burn a police station when they are not Boko Haram
All though, they won’t escape the wrath of the law

Am sure this incident would have enriched so many bankers of the bank as they would use the opportunity to cart some substantial amount of money away
