Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Theresa May has demanded that the EU makes a new offer on Britain’s withdrawal from the bloc.

While speaking at 10 Downing Street in London, May said it was “not acceptable” that the EU had rejected her plan without offering alternatives following talks with EU leaders in Salzburg on Thursday.

“So we now need to hear from the EU what the real issues are and what their alternative is so that we can discuss them,” May said. “Until we do, we cannot make progress.”

May also challenged European Council President Donald Tusk who said on Thursday Britain’s proposals would “undermine the single market”.

“He didn’t explain how, in any detail, or make any counter-proposal,” May said. “So we are at an impasse.”

Back home, May has been facing headlines detailing her ‘humiliation’ at an EU summit in Salzburg over her Brexit proposal which is becoming a hard sell.
