Another 257 Nigerian return home from Libya

No less than 257 more Nigerians returned home from Libya on Wednesday morning after the return of 144 earlier on Tuesday evening.

The 144 who landed on Tuesday were said to have voluntarily returned. They landed at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos at about 6:46pm, while the Wednesday returnees landed at the airport at about 1:30pm.

The return of the latest returnees according to the spokesperson for the Lagos Airport Police Command, Mr. Joseph Alabi, was facilitated by the International Organisation for Migration and the European Union.

The migrants were stranded in the volatile North African country en route Europe. Among them are 65 adult females, 179 adult males, seven children and six infants.

It was leant that four of the returnees had medical issues and were swiftly transported on an ambulance to where they can get medical attention.

The 144 who arrived earlier on Tuesday came back aboard a chartered Buraq Airlines aircraft with registration number 5A-DMG.

They were received at the Hajj Camp area of the airport by Haija Aisha Buhari who was represented by the wife of the Lagos State governor, Mrs. Bolanle Ambode.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government on Tuesday in a statement signed by the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Mr. Tiwatope Elias-Fatile, said that Nigeria’s embassy in Libya had been going from one detention camp to another identifying Nigerians for registration.

It revealed that government has a record of 2,778 Nigerian migrants registered in “accessible” detention camps in Libya and ready for repatriation.

    You’re welcome to your real home country, Nigeria is a beautiful place to be only if you have your head on your neck…if you can apply your God giving knowledge well, you will make it, but if not, the reverse will be the case…but if you have to travel next time, remember not to pass through the Sahara Desert to Libya…you’re welcome once again!
