Another Kano market gutted by fire

It was yet another tragedy in Kano State, as fire gutted Gwarzo market in Gwarzo Local Government Area of the state, destroying property worth millions of Naira.

It is the second time in less than two weeks that markets in Kano State would be gutted by fire. A large section of the popular Sabon Gari Market in the Kano metropolis had been destroyed by fire recently.

According to an eye witness, the incident occurred around 1 a.m on Friday morning, destroying the entire furniture section of the market before it was put out by men of the fire service in the area.

Confirming the incident, the Director of the state’s Fire Service, Alhaji Mustapha Rulwan,
said the fire started around 1.45 a.m. and destroyed 30 shops in the furniture section of the market.

“We got the report of the incident around 1.45 a.m. and our men in Gwarzo office were able to quench the fire around 3.25 a.m. today (Friday). “Our preliminary investigation indicated that the fire spread to the shops and other places when some traders attempted to burn sawdust.”
