If anything happens to Buhari don't even try to contest 2019, Northern elders warn Osinbajo

The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has stated that in any event President Muhammadu Buhari fails to seek re-election in 2019 due to his failing health, the acting president , Yemi Osinbajo should not contemplate running for office of the president.

NEF said the office of the president in such eventuality will be retained by a northerner and not any politician from other regions of the country, apparently referring to what happened in the case of late President Musa Yar’Adua and his then vice, former President Goodluck Jonathan.

This feeling was expressed by the chairman of NEF, Professor Ango Abdullahi, stressing that the region must be allowed to produce a presidential candidate from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2019 should Buhari fail to seek re-election.

According to him, Acting President Osinbajo can only be allowed to complete the current tenure but not to contest in 2019, should the ill-health of President Buhari prevent him from seeking re-election.

Abdullahi, who stated this in an interview with New Telegraph said, “The constitutional provision says that in the event that the president dies in office or becomes incapacitated for one reason or the other and cannot perform the duties of his office, he will be succeeded by the Vice president.

“But no one is in a position to know at what point he is going to recover fully and come back to office, or whether the unexpected could happen. The northern elders insist that Osinbajo cannot replace Buhari in 2019.

“If the worst case scenario happens, and Buhari is not back on seat, the constitution is very clear that the vice president takes over.

“And what we then expect is that he will take that tenure to its logical end and from there, the politics of power sharing will take precedence over anything else.

“When the unexpected happens, in 2019 we will be back to our position that the north should be treated equitably and fairly.”

The decision is in the hands of APC not just a group in the north, if APC decides to give Osinbajo the ticket, no one can go against it. They should keep praying for Buhari to get back to his two feet and be interested in running in 2019, except these, they have no right over the whole Nigeria

f Buhari should die, we should not allow any northerner to contest for the post of the president again in Nigeria, because it will appear like curse on the north to be producing president who will die in power, to avoid this, Nigerians should help them by not allowing them become president ever again.

Is it Nigeria’s fault that Buhari is sick or it is Nigerians that put the sickness in Buhari’s body that NEF will want to impose candidate on us in 2019, they must be dreaming.
