Nigerian masses, Buhari ‘has fought for you, why can’t you fight for him?’— Keyamo

The Spokesman for the Muhammadu Buhari Campaign Organisation, Festus Keyamo (SAN), has criticised the adoption by 45 political parties of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.

Keyamo told a Punch correspondent on the telephone that most of the parties were the same ones that endorsed former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015 but this did not stop Jonathan’s defeat at the polls.

The senior advocate said many of these political parties had been described as “husband and wife” parties in the past due to their low membership.

He said the All Progressives Congress (APC) would not lose sleep over the endorsement.

Keyamo added, “These people endorsing Atiku have always been the allies of the PDP right from time. There is nothing new. These were the same set of people that also endorsed the PDP in 2015. So, it is just a marriage of old allies who have been defeated before.

“We have described some of these parties before as parties of husband and wife or brothers and sisters. What they have achieved is not a coalition but a membership drive. They just brought in a few members into their fold.”

The Coalition of United Political parties, the umbrella body of about 45 major opposition parties, had a few hours after a closed-door deliberation in Abuja on Wednesday announced the former vice-president as the consensus candidate of the opposition in the 2019 election.
