APC chieftain gunned down, party accuses those calling for postponement

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused those calling for the postponement of the Saturday’s governorship election in the state of being behind the death of its chieftain, Mr Afolabi Olaposi.

Olaposi, was reportedly murdered in Owo, Ondo State, by unknown gunmen on Thursday night on his way home after attending a meeting of the party in preparation for the Saturday governorship election.

APC stated this in a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Mr Abayomi Adesanya on Friday in Akure.

APC in the statement described the deceased as one of the leaders of the party in Igboroko Ward 1, Owo, and that he was an ardent supporter of its governorship candidate, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN).

According to the party, the assailant had also gone to the house of Chief Jamiu Ekungba, an APC aspirant in the September 3 Primary of the party and vandalised seven vehicles in his compound while Ekungba was not at home.

APC said that those calling for the postponement of the election and threatening a repeat of 1983 violence were behind the killing of Olaposi.

It therefore called on security agents in the state to fish out those behind these acts and ensure the protection of its members before, during and after the election.
