APC crisis caused by race for 2019- Dalung

The race for the 2019 election has been fngered as the root cause of the current cristis rocking the All Progressives Congress, APC.

This was stated by the Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung while speaking with reporters at the national secretariat of the APC in Abuja on Thursday.

Dalung also said the current economic downturn in the country, which has caused constraints for the Buhari administration, may also be partly responsible for stirring up bitterness in the party.

The minister said: “A politician is a very ambitious person in everything he does including his steps of movement. He calculates ahead of time. It could also be that, some politicians had viewed the future and they are already dusting their weapons for a political showdown to set the tune of their political ambition.

“Now, the management of that interest is very critical, but the challenge the party is facing is that the government itself inherited a situation where it has more challenges of fixing the country and so nothing or no good attention at all would have trickled down along the line in view of the economic constraints government find itself that is enough to reinvigorate bitterness in the party and can give birth to crisis.”

On the defection of a former Governor of Plateau State, Joshua Dariye, to APC from the PDP, Dalung said it was a welcome development and an endorsement of the ruling party.

“It is a confirmation that one, the party is a political party that has something to offer; two, that he now believes that the hope of the future lies in the political party that he has changed to, and three, he would have also taken that decision damning any consequences to come to our party because he believes that it is where he can contribute to national development”, Dalung said.
