The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has described last week’s swearing in of council chairmen and councillors for the 17 local government areas (LGAs) as a “show of shame” by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led government.
The state APC publicity secretary, Comrade Benedict Godson, who addressed journalists at the party secretariat in Umuahia, along with its 17 chairmanship candidates, said the state electoral body was yet to provide the party with a copy of the results a week after the results were announced.
Comrade Godson said Governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu swore in another set of Transition Committee Chairmen which he claimed were not elected.
He said the APC was still waiting for a fresh date for the conduct of local government elections, describing what transpired on December 21 as a script acted in the name of conducting elections.
The party disassociated itself from the elections conducted by the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) and called for a fresh date for the local government elections.
