AKWA IBOM GOV RACE: NDDC boss Ekere may face legal firewall

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Akwa Ibom State chapter, has refuted reports that its candidate in the state’s governorship election, Nsima Ekere, has withdrawn from the race.

The state’s APC made this known in a statement on Thursday by its chairman, Information and Strategic Communication Committee and spokesman of Campaign Council, Eseme Eyiboh.

APC was responding to reports on social media, which claimed that the party governorship candidate had quit the race apparently for fear of losing woefully, having seen how the people voted against APC during the presidential and National Assembly election last Saturday.

But Eyiboh said Ekere has no reason whatsoever to withdraw his candidacy, saying that the news was mere fake news.

“Our attention has been drawn to (a fake news) currently making the rounds on the social media that the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the March 9, 2019 polls, Obong Nsima Ekere, has withdrawn from the governorship race.

“For avoidance of doubt, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Obong Nsima Ekere, has not withdrawn from the governorship race. He has no reason to do so,” the statement read.
