APC spokesman Igbokwe embraces thugs who caused violence at campaign ground

Lagos State Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has acknowledged that those who fought with guns, daggers and other dangerous weapons at the party’s campaign ground in Lagos were members of APC.

He however regretted that they took their gang war to the venue of the ruling party’s campaign ground.

Suspected thugs believed to be opposing members of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) had at the flag-off of the APC’s campaign at Ikeja engaged in a free for all fight.

No less than eight people were injured during the fight, including some journalists who sustained gunshot injuries.

Also, a leader of the NURTW, MC Oluomo, was stabbed and rushed to the EKO Hospital, Ikeja, for treatment.

A factional leader of NURTW, Mustapha Adekunle, aka Seigo , had since been declared wanted by the police over the clash.

Responding to a post on Twitter on the incident Igbokwe said, “NURTW took their gang war to our venue, but thank God it was not worse. We are over-comers.”

When a Twitter follower taunted him that hoodlums in the NURTW were members of the party in the South – West, the APC spokesman replied:

“We are not denying they are our members, but must they take their struggle for power and supremacy to our campaign ground to endanger other people?”

Meanwhile, the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) on Wednesday said it has made a donation of N500,000 to assist in the medical treatment of two journalists injured during the rally.

The group’s first national spokesperson, Imo Ugochinyere, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja.

He said, “The Lagos APC rally fallout is evidence that APC has recruited killers for the 2019 election.

“Buhari and APC administration place no value on human life. Their ambition for re-election is worth the life of Nigerians, going by their actions.

“APC is promoting violence , killing people without any care for human lives and allowing thousands to die as a result of their leadership incompetence”.

“With the lingering Boko Haram insurgencies in the North Eastern states, to the herdsmen’s destruction of lives and properties in the Middle -Belt region of Taraba, Plateau, Benue and Kogi States, the rising killings by bandits in Zamfara, Katsina etc. These depict a frail security system promoted by the incompetence of those the citizens entrust to safeguard them.

“All we have seen over the years since 2015 is a President who consoles and begs victims of massacre to tolerate and leave in peace with others while pampering the real killers”, he said.
