Apostle Suleiman honours DSS summon over inciting speech

Embattled pastor of Omega Fire Ministries, Apostle Johnson Suleiman, at about 7:50pm Monday night honoured the Department of State Security (DSS) invitation for a chat over his alleged inciting message to members of his church.

The DSS had, after a failed attempt to arrest the pastor last week in Ekiti State, invited him for interrogation over his alleged video message asking his church members not to fold their arms if attacked by Fulani Herdsmen.

Report Monday morning had claimed that over 50 DSS officers were stationed at the headquarters of the agency in Abuja in its bid to tighten security as it awaited the arrival of Apostle Suleiman.

There had been apprehensions that detaining the cleric might turn rowdy or violent at the DSS premises, especially after Suleiman had threatened to call out his followers all over the world if detained.

Suleiman, who appeared Monday evening at the DSS office in Abuja, was followed to the venue by persons suspected to be his lawyers.

He was, thereafter, quizzed by DSS operatives and advised to pen his statement which he did.

Against widespread belief that he may be detained overnight, he was let off by the agency shortly after 10pm.

In a statement on Sunday, Fayose described the alleged attempt to detain the two clerics as “a development that could plunge Nigeria into religious crisis,” and urged the security operatives to face the task of apprehending “culprits in the various religious crisis in recent times”, rather than “attacking persons who were forced to express their frustration” over “government’s failure to protect the citizens”.
