The Court of Appeal sitting in Kaduna on Thursday affirmed the victory of Governor Nasir el-Rufai in the March 9 governorship election in the state.

In a judgment delivered by Justice Olumuyiwa Aburu, the appellant court panel unanimously upheld the earlier ruling of the election petition the tribunal, which equally held that el-Rufai was duly returned as governor of Kaduna State on March 9.

The court dismissed the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate in the election, Isah Ashiru, for lack of merit.

The party and Ashiru had appealed the declaration of El-Rufai as winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), saying the election was fraught with fraud and irregularities.
