Akpabio approaches tribunal to reclaim senate seat

The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, has described the Appeal Court judgment as a victory for democracy and said he was grateful to God and his people for always standing by him.

The Court of Appeal in Calabar, Cross River, had on Saturday nullified the election of Dr Chris Ekpenyong of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who was declared the winner of the February 23 National Assembly election in Akwa Ibom North-West senatorial district.

The court ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw the Certificate of Return issued to Ekpenyong and conduct a fresh election in the senatorial district within 90 days.

“I will never take your support for granted.”
