Less than a month after he was appointed in acting capacity, Solomon Arase was on Tuesday confirmed as the substantive Inspector General of Police (IGP) by the Police Council presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan

The Police Council consists of the President, Vice Presidents, all state governors and the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, among others.

Members unanimously confirmed Arase’s appointment after listening to the President. They were also briefed by the new police boss on measures being put in place to reduce the level of crimes in the country.

Arase, who replaced Suleiman Abba later told newsmen that he would do his best in addressing the security challenges and his strategic responses to them, even as admitted that there is no society that is crime-free.

Arase said the police under him would ensure that it will be within tolerable level.

To his men, he said, “I will tell them that their welfare will be number one on my cardinal responsibilities”.
