Arewa pastors say they’ve lost confidence and faith in Buhari govt

The Arewa Christians and Indigenous Pastors Association (ACIPA) at the weekend said it has lost confidence and faith in President Muhammadu Buhari-led government over its failure to protect lives of Christians and Nigerians in general.

The group was reacting to the killings by herdsmen in the country, who according to them became more inhuman since President Buhari emerged as Nigeria’s president.

ACIPA president, Rev. Luke Shehu, who made the position of the group known during a press conference in Jos, Plateau State, called for the immediate resignation or dismissal of all service chiefs, the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris; and the Minster of Interior, Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazzau (retd).

The group while expressing their desire to have a Christian president elected in 2019, advised that the next administration should form a special border patrol force, made up of trained patriotic Nigerians.

It said that Fulani herdsmen should either “return to the desert or stop their carnage.”

For calling for self-defence, ACIPA described the former Minister of Defense, Lt.-Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (retd.), “as the amiable hero of the persecuted Christians, minorities and all Nigerians, and a voice of countless Muslims.”

Shehu said, “We are not unaware of the imminent threat and risk such opposition to this government and its cabals may attract to Gen. Danjuma and those of us who share his position as we have since earlier posited. Particularly in the failure to protect lives of Christians and Nigerians in general, we have lost confidence and faith in this administration.”

ACIPA added that Nigerians cannot be fooled with what is happening with the issue of the remaining Chibok girls in Boko Haram captivity and the continuous keeping of Leah Sharibu, a female pupil of Government Science Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State, who refused to convert to Islam.

“Nigerians cannot be fooled in a circus with the remaining Chibok girls. We also categorically demand the immediate release of Leah Sharibu, whose boldness not to renounce Christianity affirms the faith of Christians the world over and portrays our steadfastness and freedom of choice of religion, rather than compulsion,” Shehu said.
